If your grammar and syntax is any indication you have answered your own question.

I am willing to bet that those “dumb focker” officers understand simple things, like how to properly use grammar.

College only shows that Officers are trainable. Not that they can use that training. I’ve known quite a few officers that had a degree in :”basket weaving” that I could only respect the uniform… but then again I have known quite a few that I have had total respect for the person as well as the uniform.

You dont just get the job by having a college degree. Many enlisted have college degrees, even graduate degrees.
It also requires you to go to Officer Candidate School, or ROTC, or a Service Academy.
Those schools are NOT fun. OCS is a total nightmare actually.
They try to weed out people who cannot think on their feet while under stress. They look for leadership skills.
Granted, not every officer is created equal. Some are weak. I know. However, OCS has a VERY high washout rate. Its tough. Its designed to weed out the non hackers.
College is one of many requirements to be an officer.
And if you think your officers suck, then get a degree, and go to OCS. make a difference. Be a good officer yourself. Its not some secret club that will never let you in.
Oh, and you dont have to be a genius. You have to be able to lead troops in combat. At least thats the requirement for a grunt officer (I was an infantry platoon leader).
In garrison, the platoon sergeant ran the shop, when we were on patrol or in the field, I ran it. I am no genius, but I can lead a platoon into combat. Officers arent neccessarily supposed to be the smartest, they are supposed to be able to lead, and make the right decision under stressful conditions. I would say OCS catches 8 out of 10 people who cannot do this, and kicks them out.
Oh, my last company commander was a bonehead, except under combat situations, then he was one cool headed dude. People thought he was horrible. However, he got the mission done, every time, and didnt get his people killed. All he needed was an IED or a mortar round to go off and he was in his element.

Honestly ive been wondering that myself for a couple of years now. Officers are known in the army to mess things up all of the time. Im not realy sure why there so high ranking but at least they have the platoon sargeant and 1sgt to keep them in line.

Forrest Gump was a “genius” in the army because he knew exactly what to do.
“Whatever you tell me to do, Sergeant.”
Lower ranking officers do not have to question why. They don’t have to be smart. They have to be willing to put their body in front of us when an enemy is attacking.
Thank God for army guys with a damn sight more guts than us regular people.

Civilians.
Leave the military to those that want to serve and are willing to accept and appreciate how the military is structured.
The same can be said in the civilian industry. You have people in positions that any one with common sense can perform. It’s your education that gives you an edge over those regular people in times of crisis and important decision making.

You’ve not seen them do what they can do.
The army has recognized them as good soldiers, so they got a promotion. Simple.

“i no some pretty dumb fockers”
Are you one of those pretty dumb fockers, but sans education? Seems like it.
Believe it or not, yes, education does make a difference. You can’t teach leadership, you can’t teach initiative, but at least you can know that the person you’re putting in charge of a unit is conducive to learning and following orders.

From what I heard it is the only job on the planet were someone can be there for like 20 years and have to salute someone who has been there for not even a year. Oh wait that is like every where else. I agree , especially in the military time should show rank.
