Why does my Xbox overheat sometimes and work perfectly fine other times?
Reader question: I have an Xbox 360 that i have already had to send back because it got the ring of death, now it is having problems again. My Xbox keeps overheating at my house after playing it for only 5 minutes but if i go to my friends house it never overheats. Is it a problem with my X box or is it problems with the power at my house?
I have tried all of the suggestions listed on xbox.com. and i have tried every outlet in my house.

It could be how you have your Xbox set up at your house.. you need to be sure that both the Xbox and the power supply are in the open air with plenty of empty space around them..
If you have them sitting on soft surfaces (like carpet) or closed in cabinets where they cannot get enough air flow they can overheat very quickly.. Also be aware of other heat sources.. if you have your Xbox close to other devices which also generate heat they will contribute to your Xbox overheating..
>>> UPDATE
I don’t think it is the power.. it is most likely a combination of how warm it is in your house and how your Xbox is placed.. make sure to have it on a hard surface with no other objects nearby.. The fact that it works fine at your friend’s house means that there is nothing really wrong with the fans or anything..
Good Luck..

Personally I have gone through three 360s i am currently on my fourth this one is on its own shelf with nothing around it and the power supply box is up off the floor and when i am using it at all i have my cabinet door open so it can air out and i have had this one for a little over a year and nothing has happened to it

first check how you have set up your machine in your house. Xbox and the power supply must be in the open air with plenty of empty space around them. this is critical in order for your machine to operate properly
