Why are drug dealers given a provisional license but if u owe child support you are not allowed one?
Reader question: I live in South Carolina. Drug dealers are allowed to drive to work (to sell drugs?). If you are behind on child support you are not allowed to drive so you will never be able to provide for your kids.
I live in SC and drug dealers are allowed a provisional license. If you owe child support you are not allowed to drive to be able to support your kids. I went into arrears because i was temp laid off but now I cant drive to work.
My ex is on my side on this matter but courts wont budge.

because if you are that behind on your child support your a bum, and need to be riding the bus. if you do not have the money to support your child then you should not have the money to maintain a vehicle.
drug dealers should be able to obtain a provisional drivers license so they can obtain a job and get money elsewhere than the drug trade.

Dealing drugs has nothing to do with a drivers license, just as being a murder would not have anything to do with it. However, it is the law that if you don’t pay for the kids you brought into this world and be a responsible father or mother, you do not get to drive.

child support arrears is trackable.
“drug dealers” are not criminals until convicted.
If someone is behind on child support, it’s children suffering. As for the argument about “never be able to provide for your kids”, they should have thought about that BEFORE the child support went into delinquency!
No sympathy here, sorry.

A lot of ignorant answers here,
1- just because u fell behind on child support does not make u a bum. everyone falls behind on bills at 1 point or another especially when laid off.
2-dealing drugs has a lot to do with a license since drug dealers do lose driving privileges when convicted.
3-drug dealers are not criminals? you dont lose ur license unless ur convicted so yes these people are diffinitely criminals.
I DO have sympathy for you because it is not always your fault to get behind on child support and i know they will take ur lic for as little as $500 in arrears and you cant get to work making you fall further behind and making it almost impossible to catch up. How can this ever be good for the children. These people here assume ur a deadbeat, that u dont have a relationship w ur kids, and u dont care about paying. Yet they think that drug dealers are actually going to use their provisional lic to work? They will more than likely use it to sell more drugs.
My advise is try to get a good lawyer to get laws changed even tho owing child support does not entitle u to a right to obtain counsel, but maybe a good lawyer can see the defective laws and do some pro bono work to change them.
