What was the relationship between the Indians and people of colonial New York?

Reader question: Did they have a peaceful relationship with each other, or did they ever come accross problems with each other?

  1. There was a fight which led to the death of two Indians on Staten Island, following which the Indians attacked and nearly wiped out the European settlements there. The whites then counterattacked, and that was the last of the Lenape tribe on Staten Island. Manhattan, Long Island and Bronx tribes were generally justy pushed out by superior numbers.
