What kind of transmission does an 85 ford ranger have?
Reader question: I have a transmission from a 1990 mustang 2.3 that i believe is an A4LD. Is this the correct transmission for a 1985 ford ranger? Direct swap?

It should swap over fine. The A4LD was used in the ranger from 1985 until 1995.
Note: It’s a very good idea to replace the front pump seal and stake the new one in place – other than that, you should be good to go.
