What is the difference between an Xbox 360 elite and an Xbox 360 arcade?

Reader question: This is in continuation to my other question of what I should get my boyfriend...an xbox or ps3.

I have decided to go with the xbox but now I don't know which one is worth the money.

Can you compare the two and tell me which is worth it.

  1. Arcade- 256 MB storage,standard AV cable,Game Compatibility : only xbox 360 games

    Pro- 60 GB storage,Headset,Network Cable,
STANDARD/HD AV cable,Game Compatibility : all xbox 360 and xbox games

    Elite – 120 GB storage,Headset,Network Cable,
    STANDARD/HD AV cable,HDMI Output,Game Compatibility : all xbox 360 and xbox games

  2. The Elite model is black, has the new falcon chipset and an HDMI port for HD viewing, and comes with a 120GB Hard Drive. The arcade is not sold anymore, it has no hard drive and no HDMI. I would suggest buying a standard white xbox with the 20 gig hard drive and HDMI port, cause all new xbox’s have the Falcon chipset now which helps prevent alot of the overheating probs the old boxes had. The elite is the same as a new white box besides the color and the hard drive size. Hope this helps.

  3. Elite: 120 gb hard drive. Arcade: 256 mb built-in memory.
Elite: Headset included. Arcade: No headset.
Elite: Ethernet cable include. Arcade: No cable.
Elite: composite-component-HDMI cables. Arcade: composite cables.
Elite: 400 bucks. Arcade: 200 bucks.

If I were you, I would get the PS3. But if you still insist on the 360, you can get the premium which is somewhere between the arcade and the Elite. It has a 60 gb hard drive. Headset, ethernet cables included. Also has composite-component cables. It’s also 300 bucks.

Personally, I wouldn’t bother getting the arcade because I think the 360 needs the hard drive to take advantage of what’s available on XBL. Without the hard drive, he can’t experience NXE, download extra contents (such as map packs).

The hard drive also lets him play some XBX games but not all XBX games. The 360 is backward compatible with 400 or so games (I think that’s the right number).
Component, HDMI cables are for HD TV.

Just so you know, the guy above me is giving you info about the previous 360s, not the current 360s.

Arcade are still sold in stores. The Core isn’t sold in stores anymore.

The arcade has HDMI output. The core doesn’t. The arcade was the 2nd 360 to get HDMI output, after the Halo 3 special edition premium 360. The 20 gb 360 is no longer sold. MS upgraded the 20 gb to a 60 gb hard drive. The Falcon is so yesterday. MS is using the Jasper chipset (65 nm CPU, 65 nm GPU) so they produce a lot less heat, which is to blame for the ring of death. The Falcon uses a 90 nm GPU and a 65 nm CPU. The Zephyr (launch 360) had 90 nm CPU and GPU so they were producing a lot of heat.

  4. get him a ps3 it got a $100 price drop amd the slim will be on 1 sep
btw ps3 online is free which xbox 360 online is for $50/$60 per year
    ps3 has blu-ray
get him a ps3 he will be happy
