What Field of view do I need on my CCTV security camera?
Reader question: I have to order a few CCTV security Cameras and I’m not sure what kind of field of view I need. I’m looking for just a wide shot.

If this is a residential installation most install I’ve done are just fine with the common 3.6mm lens. If this is a commercial installation I recommend getting some cameras that have a varifocal lens and order a lens with a 5 to 50 mm range. It might be over kill by a little bit but with the 5-50mm lens being twice as big it allows around 4 times more light into your camera giving you a better look on the monitor and recorder.
This is where I get them from.
