   In sweden, it was deemed a full blown epidemic, I said okey, sure, what ever makes you happy.
   After the epidemic was over two people with swine flu had died.
   TWO out of 9 million. One of which was already suffering from heart deficiancies and the other was 70+ of age.

   I had swine flu this year. It was unpleasant, but definitely not worth all of the fervour. I understand sickly people being given the vaccines, but the virus is not at all as catastrophic as those silly news reports state. Don’t be so terrified, I agree with Bill Maher, take care of yourself in general, and these things won’t afflict you so often.

   Every fall the regular flu vaccines come out the advise is for the YOUNG and OLD to get the shots as they are the two groups most at risk. I’m not trying to feed some conspiracy theory. What I do think is that the media over hyped this story much like they do many others. We, the American public, are complete suckers for this.

    The US govt combined with the media has hyped the swine flu so much that many people just don’t believe them. for a while it seemed like any one who caught a cold was told that they had swine flu. Everyone seemed to get over it within a week. The seasonal flu kills many more people. How was this flu sooo different?

    yeah im one of the few in this country that agree with maher on health issues. vaccines also contain mercury…i wouldnt put that disease in my body if they paid me

    Did anybody catch what happened to the G.O.P.’s fake arguement that the Obama Administration dropped the ball by apparently not producing enough H1N1 Virus vaccine?

    Turns out that the virus is no longer produced in the US in any number, but it is almost exclusively manufactured outside the US.

    Why? Because the “free Market” doesn’t look at virus vaccines as being very profitable. Perfect example of why the Govt should be involved in regulating important things like medicine, healthcare…

    I agree that vaccines are overwhelmingly safe. However, I disagree with how you’re defining innoculation by vaccine. Innoculation by vaccine is a “method of purposefully infecting a person with a virus in a controlled manner so as to minimise the severity of the infection and also to induce immunity against further infection”. So Yes, it is how vaccines work.

    “Cost” is 2 things to Bill Maher:
    1) Personal Cost, ie pain in the ass to get to the clinic, lineups, traffic, physical pain and apprehension about needles etc.
    2) Financial/Societal Cost, ie, denying someone else the shot who really needs it, or at least making them wait behind him, the actual cost of manufacturing the vaccine etc, and boy does he hate big pharmaceuticals.

    I disagree. Clinical studies are almost never shown to “give the virus” to the patient. It’s simply not how vaccines work. However other things DO happen during clinical trials. It’s the reason why drug commercials list so many side effects, we aren’t sure what caused these side effects, but they happened during the trials.
