The Flash runtime already catches the lion’s share of actual coding errors. Most people never see them because they never run a debugging version of the runtime. The Safari Flash plugin catches errors in the actual Flash runtime.
I’m not going to try to guess Apple’s motives. They’re a business, not a charity. The same goes for Microsoft and Adobe. I have clients for whom the iPad is a great solution with a nice form factor and larger screen relative to the iPod Touch. For others, it won’t be.

lol that was SO funny!!!!

but thats just the part of me that is trusting Apple and giving them the benefit of the doubt. The much bigger, more cynical part of me thinks that it is indeed likely that they are crippling their device to drive demand for their proprietary software and App store (since otherwise many of the features of the apps can be achieved for free directly online via Flash RIA or through an Adobe AIR program on the computer)

And to answer your question do I think Apple built a “buffer” because of Flash programmers? Possibly. This is much like when Microsoft wised up to the poor programming of hardware drivers on WinME/95/etc, and why NT and 2000 (which had much stricter rules for driver code and permissions) prevented a lot of those hardware/drivers from being compatible… but in the process it made the OS look better because there ended up being fewer crashes. Why WOULDN’T Apple do that to make it look stable?

As for unit test coverage… I don’t see any indication that the Flash libraries and classes have NOT all been tested. There are bugs, yes, as there almost always are in anything… they get caught, reported, and — if they are critical (which I have yet to see in Flash), they are fixed.
Even the sacred Mac OS has to patch their bugs with updates and upgrades (do a Google search for “Mac OS bugs”)

you could even download a dildo application!!! HAHAHA
January 31st, 2010 - 08:26
the most a runtime can do is be set to catch exceptions and report them to the debugger/log, and at best it can time out (for infinite loops, for example) and clean up memory when the programmer is too lazy or stupid to do that correctly themselves… and this is what I see the Flash debugger do, so I don’t see where the problem lies?
I do see where a problem lies with denying a user access to half of the most popular websites on the web.

Actually, 100,000,000 is closer to 2% of the worlds population. It’s about a third of the population of the United States. Still a pretty big number though.
As of this moment he’s only got 99,991,272 left before he reaches his goal.

Actually, I am a programmer and I do know what I’m talking about. Yes you can write buggy programs in any programming language.
But you seriously believe that the Flash runtime has 100% unit test coverage? That it has no bugs of varying severity? That there might not be a serious bug in a multithreaded runtime that Adobe can’t or won’t fix? Apple spent extra effort to build a software “buffer” between Flash and a browser because of Flash programmers? You don’t know what you’re talking about.
January 31st, 2010 - 14:19
you dick.. if your going to get 100 000 000 followers thats more then half the people on earth.. and your only giving $5000?? WTF?
January 31st, 2010 - 14:40
LMAO, this video is old, MadTV foresaw the epic fail that would be the iPad. Sad thing is, the iPad portrayed here would probably sell more.
January 31st, 2010 - 15:22
To tell the truth, I think the iPad is stupid and a waste of money and time. Unlike a laptop that I can take out in public and not get a second glance, The iPad seems like something that will draw attention and just look plain stupid. Plus, there’s so much ways to make fun of it. I will stick with my Sony Vaio and Zune HD.
