Neil Tyson talks about ufos and the argument from ignorance.

Exclusive video!

From: St Petersburg College 6605 5th Avenue North St Petersburg, FL 33710-6899 Link for full video:Cosmic Quandaries with Dr. Neil degrasse Tyson - www.youtube.com en.wikipedia.org The argument from ignorance, also known as argumentum ad ignorantiam ("appeal to ignorance" , argument by lack of imagination, or negative evidence, is a logical fallacy in which it is claimed that a premise is true only because it has not been proven false, or is false only because it has not been proven true. The argument from personal incredulity, also known as argument from personal belief or argument from personal conviction, refers to an assertion that because one personally finds a premise unlikely or unbelievable, the premise can be assumed to be false, or alternatively that another preferred but unproven premise is true instead. Both arguments commonly share this structure: a person regards the lack of evidence for one view as constituting proof that another view is true. The types of fallacies discussed in this article should not be confused with the reductio ad absurdum method of argument, in which a valid logical contradiction of the form "A and not A" is used to disprove a premise.

  3. Which St. Petersburg is this? Russia or Florida? I live in St. Petersburg FL.

  4. What St. Petersburg is this? The one in Russia or Florida?

  5. I know of too many people who fall victim to the array of DR.Tyson’s insight. poor guys.awesome video, Ive watched it a thousand times.

  6. What is his response to credible witnesses who are trained observers saying they definitely saw a craft and that it definitely wasn’t from Earth… that is not ‘lights in the sky’ it is something more… like the phoenix lights, rendlesham forest whatever, these cases the official explanations do not match what the people said they saw so it doesn’t stand up to his argument that they are simply mistaken

  7. Funny thing is that he is using eye witness testimony to disprove UFO’s but no one ever does that to disprove the bible . . . wasnt that bad boy written 33 years after christ died? just sayin.

  8. Go fuck yourself parabola, he adds humor to learning, thats a good thing!

  9. He should make up his mind on weather he wants to be a Scientist or a Standup Comedian!

  10. I didn’t know that the newest item on the list, demanded of themselves and others, by quacks is evidence.

I think it is a pretty sober thing to regard oneself and other Humans as very poor observers in certain areas. Our perception has evolved to notice even the slightest change in our fellow human’s facial gestures or tone of voice, and to spot both predators and pray in the wild. We haven’t evolved any specially good tools to do astronomy bare eyed.

  11. just saw this shill on john stewart talking about water on the moon. he says that there is water on the moon so we can make fuel there and push space ship far into space.dude the earth has shit loads of water why can;t my car be fueled by it……this guy is a fake government shill dont believe anything he says

  12. i love how he just glosses over the details of specific cases and makes broad, sweeping philosophical generalizations in his argument. he’s arguing from a point of ignorance, he clearly has not studied the evidence, like most quackademics.

  13. Him and Carl Sagan are awesome for that very reason.

  14. Think before you speak. Of course we look for things we don’t think exist. The process is called science.

  15. Neil deGrasse Tyson is a god.

  16. replace UFO for religion

  17. a good ‘experiment’ you can do is stand outside for a whole night and see one for yourself..

Running alien implants through mass spectrometers was also a good experiment.. But of course.. noone looks for that which they dont think exist.

  18. Dr Jonathan Reed Demonstrations Alien Technology from another world. For those who do not know of this man type in Dr Jonathan Reed in youtube and watch the most outstanding account of alien human interaction in modern history. This is what ufo communities have tried to hide for nearly 15 years. Jonathan Reed was filmed on live television using the alien device he recovered in the woods when his encounter took place.

    watch?v=-Jmm2SaAbJo

  19. If they do have a UFO ashtray somewhere they will never let you see it because youre a public puppet, not a government scientist. proof smoof good luck with that, and don’t discredit people over one stupid cops retarted story!!! keep looking up Neil one day you might get lucky!!!

  20. That cop got owned! ha!!

  21. Simply brilliant! Thanks.

  22. @EdgeStormcrow You can also be a “Ph.D” in bullshit. Sorry, religion I mean. That doesn’t give it any credibility.

  23. I like this guy, he popularizes science. The more common people get interested in science the better.

  24. I like when ever he appears on “Nova” or space documentaries on Discovery and History channels.

Completed unsolicited and worthless random fact:
The dunce cap of schoolhouse fame originates from a paper cone that was placed on the heads of accused witches during the Middle Ages. When Joan of Arc was martyred, she was wearing one of them.
