Far more important than purity of blood was the political impact that a royal marriage could have. Extension of influence, wealth and such.    Of course. Inbreeding and royalty mating with other royalty is a stupid idea. But that hasn’t stopped the aristocracy of Europe doing it for the last couple of thousand years. Every now and then they even have “odd” children. But just hide them away. They saw it as keeping their royal/noble blood pure.
