Is it legally necessary to include a © on the bottom of your webpage?

Reader question: They're not on every page of mobile or ipad apps. Is it legally necessary to include a copyright notice on the bottom of every webpage?

  1. Not in the legal sense of it being copyrighted… I mean, since you created the content, as long as you can prove it’s yours, it’s technically copyrighted to you. However, the (c) lets people know “hey, don’t use this, it’s mine”

  2. actually no, its illegal if you use it and you dont have a copyright paid and registered with the government, you dont have to use it but people can copy and use your information on there web pages.

  3. Hello,
No its not legally necessary to include © on the bottom, but when you put a copyright, it means that you have the rights to edit that content and that no one can copy that content subject to individual permissions and your terms and conditions. On the contrary its illegal to use ® when the content is not registered officially!

  4. If you are using that website for money making then its necessary otherwise its not. Because if you will not use this symbol then anybody can copy your data and make a new page just like you. May be in the future your site becomes duplicate of that content. So it creates many issues.
