I’m rather embarrassed to say this with all these other glowing reviews, but I had difficulty grasping a lot of the concepts in this book. The principles the Kanes laid out were interesting and unique, but I found their examples unclear and seemingly irrelevant, and they offered no suggestions on implementing these principles into your life. I may eventually give this another try–perhaps it’s something that must be read more than once to understand fully–but at this point I don’t recommend this book. I recommend instead Don Miguel Ruiz’s The Mastery of Love: A Practical Guide to the Art of Relationship (Toltec Wisdom Book) and The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom, A Toltec Wisdom Book or Marci Shimoff’s Happy for No Reason: 7 Steps to Being Happy from the Inside Out, which were all easy to understand yet deep and have had a profound impact on my life.
Note: If you read this review and rate it unhelpful, please take the time to leave a comment explaining why so I know how to improve it. I’m just not sure what I’m doing wrong with this one.

I am still trying to figure out how to read something without analyzing whether what I am reading has validity or not. I understand not being too critical or too receptive, get that totally. Unfortunately, I just cannot imagine reading something without analyzing whether it would work or not. The basis for this book is “Accept your partner, forgive, move on.” Ok, get that, too. Unfortunately, not every partner will feel badly for doing something you don’t even tell them bothers you. Maybe I misread, misinterpreted the book, but it just seemed like two people who said, “Hey, I know! Let’s write a book!” It was a little hard to follow and not a fun read.

Very good book but disappointed to find that this book is the exact same information as “Working on Your Relationship Doesn’t Work” didn’t need two books with the same information in them. Very disappointed!

This book is magical! Within its pages I have discovered that the health of my relationships is 100% my responsibility. From this viewpoint, I am no longer a victim, but now the author of my life.
My husband & I used to bicker before we discovered authors Ariel & Shya Kane, and their insight on relating. We have learned the art of listening and our 8 year relationship has blossomed into a beautiful marriage. We just got married this past summer. Our relationship continues to expand with ease and love, and we give credit to what we have learned from the ideas in this magnificent book.
If you have been searching for the consistent sense of well-being within yourself and all your relationships, this is the book for you!

This is a refreshing view of relationships! After reading
this book I saw that I don’t have to believe the old
stories I used to tell myself about relationships. These
were tales I had created as a child. Even though they were
no longer true, I had been behaving as if these distortions
were facts. It’s freeing to see life as a grown woman and
not as a child. Kudos to Ariel and Shya Kane for offering
such brilliance to anyone who `s looking for magic in
their lives. I also recommend their books Working on Yourself Doesn’t Work: The 3 Simple Ideas That Will Instantaneously Transform Your Life and Being Here: Modern Day Tales of Enlightenment. All three books are enlightening and powerful.
