How many mb/gb storage does a movie take up on a new16gb IPad or any other 16gb device?

Reader question: If I have a 16gb ipad or whatever other device, how much storage is taken up by the average movie, or how many "average" flicks can be stored on a 16gb device? Thanks

  1. Commonly a 1.5 hours movie process about 600MB -1.5GB .The file size is depends on the bitrate and frame rate. If you want a blu ray movie, the video size will up to more than 6GB. If you want to store more movie on your ipod, you should convert the video to a proper format and adjust the profile setting to reduce the video size.

  2. I haven’t seen the specks, but I’m pretty sure the movies for the iPad will be the same as for the iPod. These average between 1GB to 1.5GB (depends mostly on the length of the movie and a few other factors). So with nothing else on the iPad (other than system software, which I don’t know how much that will take up), you probably can get about 9 to 15 movies on a 16GB device. But if you have music, apps, books (I think the iPad will be targeted toward the Amazon Kindle crowd), these will take up space and you will have to adjust the number of movies you can have on it accordingly.

  3. Depends on the quality. A download of just OK quality will be like 800MB. A DVD rip should be like 4GB.

    Some other things to consider:

-It doesn’t have an SD card slot or USB slot. You want to load all your photos on it? You need to buy a special dongle and attach it to the iPad. Ah yes, that’s convenient and cost-effective.

-You need to lay it flat and look straight down at it to type on it. It’s not like a netbook or laptop where the keyboard is flat and the screen is in front of your face.

-You can buy a keyboard accessory — you can spend extra money to turn a low-power netbook-type tablet into a non-portable desktop computer. Meanwhile there are products like Lenovo U1 Hybrid where you can slip the tablet into a netbook shell and turn it into a portable, foldable laptop.

-Apple wants to say it will be great for reading books and magazines, but it has a bright, glossy LCD screen. Meanwhile, electronic book reader devices use an electronic ink technology that doesn’t strain the eyes and can be used in the sun.

-You cannot multitask. You can only do one task at a time. If you want to surf the web and type into a document, you can’t. You need to exit one and then open the other.

-No flash support. Enjoy the web without much of its content!

-It costs $500, minimum, and has a 1 ghz processor. Products with similar specs and abilities cost less than that.

  4. I can’t wait for the iPad. I have just applied for one here:

You can participate if you want. Why no? You don’t loose anything.

  5. It all depends on the resolution of the video. Many movies downloaded from Itunes are around or just over 1.0 GB but there is software for computers that allows you to decrease the file sizes so they will take up less space but be in lower quality.

    Hope that was helpful.

  6. depend on the quality, about 20 movies in nomal quailty

  7. certain bays of pirate give you movies at around 700mb

  8. probably 16 to 18 movies. converting movies doesnt really shrink the file size
