How do you tell if a cisco phone system shared line is in use when you have an incoming call?
Reader question: My boss and I share a line on a Cisco IP Phone. When a call comes in, I cannot tell whether she is on another call or not. There must be a way besides barging into her office.

speak with your phone system vendor or SIP provider..
you should be able to have a separate channel to be able to make calls while the other phone is in use if it is provisioned and set up properly..
