Using PowerPoint 2007, from the Insert tab click Sound and select what sound/music you would like to insert. The little speaker icon will appear on your slide.
From the Animations tab, click Custom Animation to view the Custom Animation pane. Your added sound clip should appear on the pane. Click the down arrow to the right of the sound on the pane and select Effect Options. From the Stop playing area, select After Current Slide.
When you repeat this process to add sound to another slide, you can adjust the settings in the Start playing area (to From last position or From time) to make it sound like the music played through the whole presentation and only paused for your video.

For PowerPoint 2007:
# On the slide, click Insert to pick the Sound drop-down list on the very right below the tab. Select Sound from File in the list and choose the specified sound track from your hard drive.
# Click OK and a message prompts, saying How do you want the sound to start in the slide show? Click Automatically.
