How can I remove the velcro from my apartment wall without ruining the paint job?
Reader question: I put a french memo board on my wall with the use of adhesive velcro strips...me being a dumbass I didn't check the back of the package and it said, "might damage surface when removed". Is there any way I can remove the velcro from my apartment wall without the paint job being ruined or am I totally screwed? I heard of a hairdryer doing the job...any suggestions?

Try slightly peeling back the velcro and using a razor blade to carefully cut the adhesive away. They afterwards you could use Goo Gone or another adhesive remover to take off the residue left behind.

Heating the velcro will definitely soften it and make the glue easier to remove. Once you’ve heated it with a hairdryer, simply use a flat razor blade to slide under the velcro and lift it off. In a job like this, slower is definitely better.
If some glue remains, simply use an acetone free nail polish remover or goo gone, unless of course, your paint is a flat paint and not semi-gloss or satin.
If all else fails and you do damage the art, simply hang a nice piece of art or a great poster.

use GooGone to soak the glue behind the velcro and pull gently
DO NOT HEAT!! you will heat the paint and screw it up!!
