Fisker Karma Plug-In Hybrid Vehicle at Discovery Channel
Exclusive video!
Television interview with Henrik Fisker on the sports high-performance Fisker Karma plug-in hybrid vehicle being developed at Fisker Automotive (www.fiskerautomotive.com). Video shows rare footage of Quantum Technologies' (www.qtww.com) installations where the Q-drive electric hybrid powertrain is being developed for the Karma. Test runs are at El Toro' old airbase in Orange County, and a showcar was recently demonstrated at the tracks of Laguna Seca. Production is planned at Valmet Automotive's installations at Finland.

I don’t think super cars like that will be a big hit because, most enthusiast prefer the screaming roar from a gas engine.
July 30th, 2010 - 02:33
Oh, I saw one of those cars! I thought it was a Maserati though.
July 30th, 2010 - 03:25
@Carrillo17: of course it does (have more torque than a Veyron), though only at low RPMs. An ideal electric motor’s torque is 1/rpm. 1/0 is infinity, so an ideal electric motor has infinite torque when stopped. No electric motor is ideal, but it’s easy for electric cars to have more torque than internal combustion cars. This is also why the original Tesla Roadster kept breaking the transmissions.

@NMoulana: electricity does not “require” burning coal, it comes from any number of sources, including burning natural gas, burning oil, or burning coal, but also hydroelectric or nuclear. In some parts of the country, most electricity does come from coal. But so what? The Karma gets more “coal mileage” than a conventional vehicle, because electric cars are twice as efficient. Plus the pollution goes “over there”, not into our lungs, and that last is worth billions of dollars.

@filiopop101 are u serious?? a car that is nearly fully electric and gets freakin 100 mpg and looks amazing and full of futures! 125 is perfect for an electric car!

i’ve seen it at a dealer, its really huge. Its beautiful: fuck prius, this is what we want
July 30th, 2010 - 06:00
@DackIsBack i dont think anyone would buy…. and i dont think theyve sold many of them…..
July 30th, 2010 - 06:32
i like this, but i like tesla better
July 30th, 2010 - 07:32
@Carrillo17
Why? Electric motors create massive torque and they do so instantaneously.
July 30th, 2010 - 08:29
wow…it was carved out of clay…just like every other car in development lol

$87,600!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
July 30th, 2010 - 09:28
No wonder Tesla Model S and Aston Martin car got a bit similarity in looks. They designed by the same guy.
July 30th, 2010 - 10:01
125mph? thats honestly a pathetic speed. my 200hp audi a4 does 145 and my jeep srt with 430hp does 180mph where the hell does the speed go?
July 30th, 2010 - 10:15
I seriuosly doubt it has more torque than a Bugatti Veyron lol
July 30th, 2010 - 10:37
Looks niceeee
July 30th, 2010 - 10:52
It’s a luxury car, not a car for the average person. What’s wrong with that?
July 30th, 2010 - 11:01
People have the misconception that electric is perfect, don’t forget that electricity requires burning coal. The fact is that most electric cars are still basically hybrids with old fashioned gas engines at their heart. And the batteries, they weigh half a ton if not more and recharging is a 6 hour process compared to a 5 minute gas stop. We won’t have gas forever but we won’t have a realistic alternative any time soon either. The real future is in lightweight efficiency like the smart car.

@ElPumaMex Well this Sporty Luxury electric car, not a Nissan Leaf or Honda’s electric car. This car is great to see and maybe to own if you had the money. I was looking a Popular Science magazine and was just amazed that about 1600 customers have preordered the car at 88,000 dollars. Talk about buying a Bmw or Mercedes Benz Luxury cars. Though it is great to see that our future is finding better ways to produce other source of energy for transportation than using fossil fuels.

you guys cant compare this car to the tesla. The tesla is built for something completely different and so is the Karma… this is the future of motoring and its the savior for our gasoline powered cars. if everyone on the road were driving the Tesla it wouldnt make sense b/c our world is built around the car as we know it we drive until the gas depletes, we fill up and drive more with the tesla u drive a few feet and u charge the car over night.. we would go backwards in time.

it looks like a beaver
July 30th, 2010 - 13:52
tesla has better mileage
July 30th, 2010 - 14:23
@plptypscp
I’m surprised they aren’t selling for $220,000… because they could.
July 30th, 2010 - 14:36
hmm, and for changing the battery, hon much would that cost?
July 30th, 2010 - 14:42
way more efficient, cheaper than the aston martin rapide. This is the future
