myspace.com twitter.com Chess Network. This is a game analysis from a tournament held in New York City on October 17th, 1956. Bobby Fischer (13-years-old) played the Grunfeld (Gruenfeld) Defense opening against a strong master at the time, Donald Byrne. The game is now given the label, Game of the Century. The white king ends up getting trapped in the center of the board. Fischer spent the latter part of his life in Reykjavik, Iceland. This defense has been played by the world's best. (kasparov, fischer, carlsen, anand, vs kramnik, ponomariov, morozevich, ivanchuk, aronian, gelfend, svidler, leko, topalov)

Black’s Na4 is the real masterpiece move in this game. Fischer played the game brilliantly, but Byrne helped by playing really poorly. His queen got stuck in no-man’s land, king got stuck uncastled and his king’s rook was never in play.

@vnck25 Fischer is probably the GOAT for chess because of his finesse. Perhaps we’ll see a more dominant player who can destroy opponents, something few chess players outside of fischer have ever done, but few will manage to do it in amazing games like this one! nowadays players like kramnik just grind out the position into a win or draw, but no one tends to play explosive eye popping jaw dropping awesome chess like fischer. That’s probably why he’s #1.

Wow its beyond belief that Fischer was gifted with such foresight and intuition. I was stunned at the Queen sac, but what really impressed me was Na4! Great commentary, you’re the best bro.

WOW! Fabulous game by Fischer ! I hope you will comment more games which were played by players such as Tal, Capablanca or Bobby Fischer in the future. I will be waiting especially for this sharp- tactical ones (when chessboard seems to be put in flames).

Man Bobby just demolished this guy. Everytime you did your what if scenerios, he was always in great shape no matter what Byrne did. Bobby was indeed insane… insanely good.

Good analysis. Just a bit of constructive criticism though. You’re analyzing “The Game Of The Century!”, right? I mean Fischer’s 13 years old and plays a game that is just staggeringly brilliant. A bit more enthusiasm, and some personal opinions/insight as to just how powerful, and game changing this single game was for Fischer, and the game of chess as a whole, and also just how stunned the chess world was after this game. If one didn’t know the impact of this game as a whole, they still don’t.

Why, at 7:42, did Fischer decide to sacrifice his queen for a bishop and one check? It certainly worked out for him in the end, but what did he see on the board that made it such a good idea?
