Do You Want Google Fiber?
Exclusive video!
twitter.com - facebook.com - The other night, I decided it would be fun to take live questions from the chat room and email. One of the questions was sent in by Eddie, who happens to be a co-developer of the WicketPixie WordPress theme. He wondered whether Google Fiber will whip the cable companies into shape... or if said companies are too stubborn to fall into line. chris.pirillo.com

I have fiber optic internet in Japan. It really isn’t that fast. This is because of most servers that host are not as fast as the fiber connection I have.

Hi Chris
I live in Scandinavia specifically in Denmark and our powercompany delivers Lightning fast Fibernet:
15mb/15mb to 100mb/100mb
From my PoV it’s strange that America haven’t looked in to this before!

I know everybody says they hate Comcast, but your not giving a reason why? Comcast has been great for me, I have the Digital Premier Triple Play and have had no problems over the 17 years I have had them.

July 29th, 2010 - 15:48
My DSL connection is faster than your cable. glorified dial-up my ass
July 29th, 2010 - 15:50
@TheOnlyDuST where do you live and what’s your provider? just curious.
July 29th, 2010 - 16:27
@TheOnlyDuST The standard FiOS doesn’t exceed 15mbps down. You’re talking about premium plan @ 50 mbps. OPTIMUM’s premium plan (Optimum Online Ultra) is 101mbps (2x the speed of FiOS’ premiium plan). I’ve got a standard plan (as do most people.) Google’s ISP will come @ 1gbps standard (meaning at the same price as the 15mbps plans, not at $100+ plan). When comparing ISPs you always go by the standard plan.

OMG i want google fiber so bad… my ISP is ripping me off, im paying for a 10MB connection ($75 a month) but most of the times only getting like 100kbps dls even on faster servers (speedtest shows like im on a 2mb connection) I complain to my ISP however they DO NOT CARE because they know they are the only high speed provider in my area… GOOGLE PLEASE FIX THIS CRAP!

July 29th, 2010 - 17:43
I have OPTIMUM broadband ISP @ 15mbps it’s better than FiOS in terms of bandwidth and reliability but I would switch to Google ISP if I had the chance.
July 29th, 2010 - 18:34

I do not recommend Verizon Fios, I’m only 15 minutes away from Seattle and the speeds are pathetic.
