Do my kids need the H1N1 Vaccination if they already had the swine flu?
Reader question: Both my kids had H1N1 back in mid-August, and both were treated and came through no worse for the wear. Now, since the vaccine is supposed to protect against the known virus, and they both have had it, should they need the vaccine, or would it be pointless? I know it is a possibility that the virus could mutate but then the vaccine would be worthless anyway, right? By the way, my kids are 4 and 2 weeks from being 1. Thanks.

It’s probably too recent for the virus to have mutated enough (if at all) to make a difference as far as your kids are concerned. As of now, the kids have immunity and will continue to for about one year just as if they’d had the vaacination

My pediatrician told me that my kids should have the h1n1 vaccine even if they were already exposed to it. The vaccine will then be a booster shot.
It’s up to you to do your research and decide what’s best for your children.
