Can i install an older firmware on an iphone 4g when it comes out?
Reader question: Hi i'm slowly counting down the days of the release of the iphone 4 and i really want to jailbreak it when it comes out. But it would probably take a few months for the jailbreak for OS 4 to come out. So i'm wondering if i could install the older firmware of iphone on the iphone 4g when it comes out so that i may be able to jailbreak it?

In Casablanca, Humphrey Bogart never said “Play it again, Sam.” Sherlock Holmes never said “Elementary, my dear Watson.” Captain Kirk never said “Beam me up, Scotty,” but he did say, “Beam me up, Mr. Scott.”

It’s impossible. Nothing could make it happen. The phone would stop working.
Just freaking WAIT for the jailbreak. You can’t be so pathetic as to “need” it immediately. It’s not like there’s anything left that needs jailbreaking in 4.0.
The Dev Team has already found an exploit for 4.0. You won’t be waiting “months”.

There will be no option to downgrade the OS to an earlier version.
You will have to wait for a jailbreak to come out.
At least it will give you a few months to ensure the iPhone is working correctly.
Once jailbroken you will not be able to get Apple to repair it if the iPhone gts a fault.

Short answer is “YES” you can install unofficially whatever firmware you wish.. firmwares available on source list.
officially answer is “NO” you can install only available latest firmware on iPhone device.
