Apple iPad impressions, and where I think the product could be improved

Apple announced the ipad earlier today, and I watched a live stream of the announcement as well as photos as they were being uploaded. Looking at the specs and the videos for the product I must say I am very disappointed in it. First of all the ipad has a horrible name, they could have named it anything else and it would have been better. Second it is nothing more than an overgrown ipod touch. It has no microphone, no camera, no SD slot, no USB ports Third it is just too expensive for what it does. Apple claims this is a great price but it's not. Compare it to a similair performing netbook and the price is $200 less right off the bat, and almost $500 less if you include an air card and compare it to the high end model with the 3g card built in. I suspect that this is just an introductory product and more features will be added later, but no way will I pay $500 for an ipod with very limited space and a big screen.

That charge is to use the 3G service, meaning internet access anywhere not just at wi fi hotspots and home

the fact u need to pay a monthly charge for the privelage of being able to go online is a joke as half of the stuff developed for it is online!

i agree with this review. now what I’m gonna say is kinda apples and oranges, but the nexus one’s chip specs are as good as apple’s tablet and has more features, like true GPS, SD slot, Camera, and 2 mics for noise cancelling tech. Of course they’re different product for different purposes, but at several times of the size the nexus one, apple’s tablet should beat it on more fronts than screen size and multi touch. Still no flash on apple’s product. I wanna see a Google tablet, that I’ll buy

Besides sounding bad, there is also the name looking similair to iPod, and that can cause some confusion with the not so bright people buying products.
I stand corrected on the microphone, when I checked earlier in the day I did’nt see it listed. However for a $500 device it really should have at least a SD slot built in, those are only $10 for a PC these days, surely it would only cost an additional $2 or so per unit.
Lastly you agree it basically is an iPod with better specs.

Yeah it’s a bit of a wording thing on my part, but the device’s demintions are roughly doubled, but combing the width and height the screen then triples.

1st point, iPad does sound kind of weird but idc wats its called as long as i hav it
2nd, it does hav a microphone & if u buy the 3g… u get 2 attachments u can plug into it, a camera port & an sd slot if you buy the wifi normal $500 or others u can get those attachments for bout $40/peice
3rd it is running a lesser Mac OS and a better iPhone OS so its going to b costly. Its usin an A4 processor which adds to the price and its 1GHz…thats about 6.26 times more than the 3GS

Sorry to be a stickler, but you said that the iPad’s screen size is twice as big as that of the iPod: This is wrong. Screen size is measured along a diagonal axis (from corner to corner). iPad screen size=12.1 inches: iPod screen size=3.5 inches. The iPad screen is 3.46 times the size of the iPod. No worries buddy.
