Apple ipad (16GB) Tablet Review – CNET Review Apr 2010

Exclusive video!

___________CNET Editors' Review_____________ The GOOD: In an act of aggressive tech convergence, Apple has consolidated your Netbook, e-reader, gaming device, photo frame, and ipod into an elegant, affordable supergadget. Features such as Bluetooth, 802.11n Wi-Fi, movie rentals, 10 hours of battery life, optional 3G wireless, and the most-celebrated App Store on the planet have us pretty worked up. The BAD: The ipad's large size is as much a hindrance as it is an advantage. As a jack-of-all-trades and a master of few, the ipad can't entirely mimic many of the specialized products it seeks to replace. The ipad's limited multitasking capabilities and lack of integrated video camera, Flash support, and HD video output already have us pining for next year's model. The bottom line: The Apple ipad is the first affordable tablet computer worth owning, but it won't (yet) replace your laptop.

  1. All I see with this device is nothing but pure potential. Another step closer to a paperless society. Sure, laptops are more powerful, but to someone who tried to avoid the learning curve associated with using a computer, pointing and clicking an object with your hands without having to learn how is less intimidating.

  2. It’s amazing how we humans come up with all sorts of excuses just to avoid the inevitably changing world around us. We never seem to run out of complaints and negativity towards something that challenges us to change and see the possibilities.

  3. Remember when E-Mail was first introduced; lots of humans complained because it changes their lifestyle. Now, it’s very common to hear “i’ll send you an email” vice “I’ll send you a postcard”. Humans have lots of intelligent ideas and progress potential, but sadly we hinder progress by dwelling on negativity.

  4. I think the pricing is absolutely ridiculous. my netbook has 250GB of memory, can do anything the ipad can do, and costs less than half the price of the lowest end model ipad.

Doesn’t have flash for gods sake.

  5. Looks very lame considering what a touch tablet should be like

  6. answer to the notebook my ass! no flash or USB! this is something that only RIch upper class people will buy cause they can……waste of 500 its doesn’t do enough to replace the laptop! or iPhone!

  7. @Doggieman1111

    Exactly what i thought :)

Yes, but even then Mac OS X supports multi-touch with the trackpad on their laptops, so it could cross-over with a few adjustments I’m sure. Anyway, Apple was just lazy on this one.

  9. @take450 becuz mac OSX is a OS that is based on mouse and keyboard input, iphone OS is made based on touch input. that is also why windows 7 sucks on tablets becuz windows 7 like mac OSX are designed to have mouse input.

  10. He got payed for this review for sure! (by apple ofcourse)

  11. BETTER THAN THE IPHONE SO FAR

  12. DAMMIT Why couldn’t apple have just put Mac OS X onto these things instead of the gay ass iPhone OS? I’d probably buy one, but this shit, well it’s pretty much useless.

  13. meh. I’ll use my HD TV to watch movies, my laptop to surf the web, and my smartphone when I’m not at home. The only thing I can think of using this for is for passengers on a long road trip or something, and then you’d want the 3G not just WiFi.

  14. @CelestialTorment

People keep saying its like a big ipod,
